Now He is One...

Yesterday was a wonderful day. Jack's first birthday was terrific. Beef Stew turned into home-made chicken pot pie (from scratch no less!) and we got him a strawberry parfait instead of a cake since he'll be enjoying a huge cake at his birthday party on Sunday. We bought him a ton of new trucks and cars from Playskool, which he loved playing with and watching Smokey chase, and it was just a great day.

Well, now we move into the second year of Jack's life. I think back on all of the things that his sister did at this age, and the one thing I realize is that little children assert a lot of personality and independence at this stage of the game. While Jack was out at the store with Daddy yesterday, Ken realized that we have a little "chick magnet" on our hands. The baby flirted and laughed and enjoyed all of the attention that he was given, and I think that Daddy did too. Ken commented that if anything were to happen to me he wouldn't remain single for long because of Jack...he'd have him hooked up in an instant with a new wife! (I did not find this too amusing, but I understood what he meant.)

So Friday is the day from Hell at the pediatrician's office with four shots and an iron finger stick. Needless to say that Mommy is NOT looking forward to this, but Daddy as always is there for the moral support and the shots. Happy Birthday baby...from Dr. Stetler and Staff...mmm hmmm.

On we go with the next year. I wonder what kind of comedy this will bring as Jack is a unique child, but that's part of the fun...watching and seeing! Ah, these are such good times for all of us. I almost wish I hadn't tied my tubes now...one more couldn't have hurt, but I guess when you end it with perfection it can't get any better, right?
